California Senate Bill 1383, effective January 2022, mandates organic waste recycling statewide. Anaheim residents are required to use the three-cart system to comply.
Gray/black cart (trash): Weekly. Bagged household trash that can’t go in the other two carts. Don’t put recyclables, food waste, or yard waste here.
Blue cart (recycling): Single-stream. All recyclables go loose, no bags, ties, or bundles. Acceptable: plastic bottles and containers (#1, #2, #5), glass, paper, cardboard (flattened), aluminum and tin cans.
Green cart (organics, SB 1383): Yard trimmings (grass, leaves, branches), food scraps (fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bones), food-soiled paper (napkins, paper plates without coatings). California law requires food scraps to go in the green cart, NOT in the trash.
