Greenville, South Carolina has two distinct waste service providers depending on whether you’re in city limits or unincorporated Greenville County. City of Greenville residents are served by the City’s Solid Waste Division; unincorporated county residents are served by the Greater Greenville Sanitation District (GGSC). Both provide free bulk waste pickup by appointment. Greenville County also operates staffed Residential Waste and Recycling Facilities for e-waste, HHW, and self-haul drop-off. The first thing to know about Greenville, SC is which service provider covers your address:

Both services provide weekly trash collection, bulk pickup by appointment, and recycling. Rules differ slightly between the two. When in doubt, check your utility bill or call both numbers and describe your address.
City of Greenville: Free bulk waste collection for items that don’t fit in your cart. Call (864) 467-4345 by 4 PM the day before your normal collection day. Place items at the curb by 7 AM in an unobstructed area away from parked cars, tree limbs, overhead wires, and mailboxes. Construction materials, electronics, and HHW are NOT accepted in bulk pickup.
GGSC residents: Bulk items require a scheduled pickup and are no longer picked up automatically with regular trash. Call GGSC at (864) 232-6721 or submit online at ggsc.gov. GGSC schedule: Monday–Thursday 6 AM–4 PM.
Note for specific neighborhoods: Some neighborhoods (such as Lower Greenville) have bulk trash collected monthly on the second full week of the month. Check with your city district for neighborhood-specific schedules.
South Carolina has an e-waste recycling law. Electronics including TVs, computers, monitors, and printers cannot be placed in regular trash. Disposal options:
· Greenville County staffed Residential Waste and Recycling Facilities — accept e-waste at no charge for county residents. Multiple locations. Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 7 AM–6 PM. Call (864) 243-9672.
· Best Buy — accepts most electronics free at customer service desks.
· Manufacturer takeback programs — Apple, Dell, HP accept their own brand electronics free.
Greenville County staffed Residential Waste and Recycling Facilities also accept HHW (paint, oil, batteries, chemicals) at most locations. The Twin Chimneys Landfill has additional HHW recycling capabilities. Contact Greenville County at (864) 243-9672 for current accepted items and facility hours.
· Salvation Army Greenville — free pickup for usable furniture and large items. Schedule at satruck.org.
· Habitat for Humanity ReStore Greenville — accepts furniture, appliances, building materials. Free pickup for qualifying donations.
· Goodwill Industries Upstate/Midlands SC — multiple Greenville metro locations.
· Miracle Hill Ministries — a prominent Upstate South Carolina nonprofit operating thrift stores, emergency shelters, and social services. Accepts household goods donations at thrift store locations across Greenville.
· St. Vincent de Paul — free pickup for furniture and household items.
