Donation pickup in Tucson (usable dressers)

Free

Tucson’s donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.

Items typically not accepted: damaged or stained furniture, mattresses with bedbug history or significant wear, appliances that don’t work, particle-board furniture in poor condition, cribs (federal safety regulations have changed), and exercise equipment that requires reassembly. Always call before scheduling if you’re unsure, pickups that find unacceptable items will leave them behind.

How Tucson handles dressers

Tucson runs a unique zone-based bulky pickup system: FREE Brush & Bulky Plus collection TWICE per year, 10 cubic yards per event, included in the Environmental Services fee with no additional charge. The City has 26 residential service areas, each receiving collection roughly every 6 months. Place piles at the curb by 6 AM Monday of your zone’s scheduled week; collection occurs anytime that week (Mon-Fri). CRITICAL CHANGE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026: piles MUST be at the curb in front of your home, piles in alleys will NOT be collected (with limited exceptions for special pickup areas). Brush & Bulky has strict separated-pile rules: brush separate, lumber separate, tires separate, scrap metal separate. Brush limit: under 5 ft long, 24 in diameter; lumber under 5 ft. Box cactus pieces with a 25-lb limit per box. Remove appliance doors. Glass is NOT in the blue recycling bin, use the unique purple drop-off containers across the city. Plastic bags and Styrofoam ARE collected curbside through the Hefty ReNew orange bin program (rare nationally). Mandatory composting via FoodCycle program. Holiday schedule is one of the simplest, only 3 holidays affect collection. Special Brush & Bulky pickups available for $55 base + $25 per additional 15 minutes + $5 per additional cubic yard. This page walks through every legitimate option in order from free to paid.

The Tucson rule for dressers: A dresser is ordinary Brush and Bulky material. Empty it.

Program basics: 10 cubic yards per household (one cubic yard is about a washing machine). Up to 5 tires in a separate pile. Brush up to 5 feet long and 24 inches across; lumber, metal, and pipe up to 5 feet. In front of your home, out by Monday of your scheduled week and no more than two weeks ahead. Separate piles for tires and lumber. Remove refrigerator and freezer doors.

What the city will not take: TVs and computer monitors, construction material, concrete, dirt, rocks, and gravel, glass and mirrors, compressed gas cylinders, and household hazardous waste.

How we checked this. The rules on this page were verified in October 2026 against: City of Tucson Environmental Services: Brush and Bulky. Programs change; confirm fees and limits before you go.

Why dressers are different from ordinary bulk. Donation programs have tightened furniture standards. Most now refuse particleboard and laminate pieces, anything with a missing drawer or broken runner, and anything with water damage or odor. That eliminates a large share of the dressers people try to donate, which is why so many end up at the curb.

Prep checklist before pickup day in Tucson

  • Empty every drawer and check the back for anything that fell behind.
  • Remove the drawers and stack them, or tape them shut with painter’s tape.
  • Detach an attached mirror and tape it in an X; mark it 'glass.'
  • Photograph it for a donation request or free listing before moving it.
  • Carry with two people and set out on the scheduled bulk day only.

Three mistakes that get dressers left at the curb:

  • Don't try to donate particleboard. Nearly every program refuses it; use a free listing or bulk pickup instead.
  • Don't carry a dresser downstairs with the drawers in. They slide out mid-stair. Remove them or tape them shut.
  • Don't leave a mirror attached for bulk pickup unless your city allows it. Remove, tape in an X, and mark it as glass.

Paid options are for buildings with no bulk service, multi-piece bedroom sets, or a dresser on a third floor with nobody to carry it.

Self-haul to a transfer station

$10 to $30

Drawers out, a dresser fits in most SUVs or a pickup. Transfer stations accept furniture by load or weight. Solid wood dressers can also go to a wood recycler in some regions.

Break down particleboard to cut the volume and the fee.

LoadUp paid dresser pickup

$80+

Common questions about dresser removal in Tucson

Does Tucson pick up dressers for free?

Yes, on your Brush and Bulky week.

Where can I donate a dresser in Tucson?

Tucson’s donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.

How much does paid dresser removal cost in Tucson?

Through the LoadUp marketplace, a single dresser pickup in Tucson starts around $80 to $100 with upfront pricing, and full-truck loads run $300 to $600 depending on volume. For households who need same-day or in-home pickup, exceed the 10-cu-yd-per-event limit, can’t wait until the next zone rotation, have items the City won’t accept (concrete, construction debris, glass, TVs), or want full-service hauling without managing separated-pile rules and curb-placement requirements, LoadUp offers professional removal in Tucson with upfront pricing. Independent loaders in the marketplace handle pickup, loading, and licensed disposal.

Can I put a dresser out for bulk pickup?

Yes in almost every city with a bulk program. Dressers are standard furniture. Confirm item limits and mirror rules in the directory below.

Will Goodwill or Salvation Army take a particleboard dresser?

Rarely. Most donation programs refuse particleboard, laminate, and flat-pack furniture because it does not survive transport and resale. Solid wood pieces in good condition are accepted.

How heavy is a dresser?

A solid wood six-drawer dresser weighs 150 to 250 pounds; a tall chest 100 to 180; a particleboard dresser 80 to 120. Removing the drawers cuts the carry weight by about a third.

How do I break down a particleboard dresser?

Remove the drawers, back the screws out of the cam locks or pry the panels apart, and knock the back panel off. The flat panels bundle for bulk pickup or fit in a car for a transfer station.

Is this Tucson page maintained?

Yes. Freemoval maintains this page as a public resource alongside the full Tucson guide. We update it when programs change rules, fees, or contact methods. Last updated October 2026. If you find outdated information, let us know.
