Eligibility: Households in active partner communities. Ask your property manager whether your building participates.
Status in Augusta: Onboarding partner properties throughout 2026.
What loaders pick up: Furniture, mattresses, appliances, bulk waste, anything within standard LoadUp marketplace service capabilities.
How it’s funded: 100% covered by LoadUp customer round-ups and partner-property fees.
Coastal Waste contract. On August 1, 2025, Coastal Waste & Recycling took over residential collection service for the entire City of Augusta. Coastal had previously served half the city. Your collection day for garbage, bulk, and yard waste did not change with the new contract.
One cart per household. Augusta now uses a single cart standard. Only the official Augusta-logo gray-topped garbage carts will be serviced. Personal rolling carts and other containers are not accepted. Additional carts are available for an extra fee, contact Augusta for current rates.
Cart placement rules. Cart out by 7:00 AM. Lid closed. 3 feet of clearance on all sides. At least 6 feet from vehicles, boats, mailboxes, light poles, and fences. 15 feet of overhead clearance from trees and wires. Handle facing your home, container at the curb 3 feet or less from the road’s edge.
Holiday delays. If a holiday falls on a weekday, collection on or after the holiday is delayed by one day for the rest of the week (Monday becomes Tuesday, Friday becomes Saturday). If the holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, collection runs as normal.
Refrigerant rules. Georgia follows EPA Section 608 federal rules for refrigerant recovery in refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. Don’t set out a charged unit, this is illegal under federal law. Retailer haul-away with appliance delivery is the most common path that handles this for you. Call Coastal Waste for guidance on bulk appliance pickup.
Outside Augusta-Richmond County. If you’re in Columbia County, Aiken County (SC), or Burke County, services and rules differ. Augusta Disposal serves much of the surrounding area; check the Augusta Disposal website for schedules, holiday rules, and accepted items.
Augusta-area donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods. Habitat ReStore CSRA in particular focuses on home improvement items and accepts cabinets, doors, lighting fixtures, and building materials.
Items donation programs typically don’t accept: damaged or stained furniture, mattresses with bedbug history or significant wear, appliances that don’t work, particle-board furniture in poor condition, cribs (federal safety regulations have changed), tube-style or rear-projection TVs, and exercise equipment that requires reassembly.
If you’re unsure whether something qualifies, call the program before scheduling. Pickups that arrive and find unacceptable items usually leave them behind, which means you still need to dispose of them.
For items the city won’t take in curbside (tires, large carpet, construction debris), households outside Augusta-Richmond County, or jobs that exceed the 10 cubic yard limit, paid removal options are available.

$30–$80If you have a truck, regional transfer stations and landfills accept household waste with tipping fees by weight. Cheapest paid option, but you handle loading and unloading.
Augusta Disposal: Regional waste hauler with transfer facilities serving the Augusta metro. Call ahead for hours, accepted materials, and fees.
Construction debris: Use a licensed C&D landfill or roll-off rental for renovation waste, the city won’t take it curbside.
Always call ahead: Hours, accepted materials, and fees change. Some facilities don’t accept mattresses or specific items.

Different items have different rules. Here’s a quick reference for the most common things people need to dispose of in Augusta.
Hazardous household materials cannot go in any Augusta curbside cart. Augusta-Richmond County runs bi-annual HHW events; auto parts stores and retailers handle routine items year-round.
Bi-annual HHW events. Augusta holds HHW collection events twice yearly, typically spring and fall, accepting paint, motor oil, pesticides, household cleaners, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and electronics. Watch augustaga.gov or call 311 for current dates.
Free tire recycling events. Augusta holds periodic free tire recycling events since tires were removed from regular curbside collection. Tires must come from residential customers, contractors and commercial volumes are excluded.
Auto parts stores. AutoZone, O’Reilly, and Advance Auto stores in Augusta accept used motor oil and lead-acid car batteries free year-round. This is the easiest option for routine auto maintenance waste.
Pharmacy take-back. Augusta-area pharmacies and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office operate medication drop boxes. Don’t flush or trash medications.
If you see illegal dumping or want to report a dump site, the right channel depends on jurisdiction:
Augusta-Richmond County: Call 311 or use the Augusta Trash & Recycling App (App Store / Google Play). Submit a service request through the city portal.
Richmond County Sheriff: For active dumping in progress or repeat-offender investigations, call the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number.
Georgia EPD: For environmental violations involving hazardous materials or large-scale commercial dumping, contact the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
Illegal dumping in Georgia carries fines, possible misdemeanor charges, and cleanup-cost recovery. Placing waste from one property at another property’s collection point is also a violation. If you’re considering dumping because you can’t afford a haul, please use one of the free options above instead, the bulk pickup is included in standard service.
Is bulk pickup really free in Augusta?
Yes, on the same day as your regular weekly garbage. No separate appointment, no per-item fee. Bulk piles must be 10 cubic yards or less, with no item longer than 5 feet or heavier than 50 lbs. Coastal Waste collects everything in a single same-day visit. Cart out by 7 AM.
How do I sign up for Augusta's new recycling service?
Augusta's curbside recycling launched January 1, 2026 as an opt-in program managed by Coastal Waste & Recycling. Enroll online at coastalwasteinc.com/online-signup or call (706) 790-4117. Recycling is not mandatory. If you had an old recycling cart before August 2025, those were removed during the hauler transition and you need to re-enroll to receive a new Coastal cart.
Why aren't tires picked up curbside anymore?
Augusta Environmental Services dropped tires from regular curbside collection. Free tire recycling events are now the city's pathway, watch the city calendar for next dates. Tire shops typically also take old tires for $3-$8 each when buying new.
What's the cheapest way to get rid of a mattress in Augusta?
Free, set it out at the curb on your weekly collection day. The mattress must fit within the 5-foot length and 50-pound single-item limits (most do). If the mattress is in good condition, Salvation Army or Habitat ReStore CSRA may pick up free. Paid hauling services start around $80 for same-week pickup.
Why was my old recycling cart removed?
When Coastal Waste & Recycling took over the entire city service on August 1, 2025, prior recycling carts were removed during the transition. Coastal began delivering new recycling carts in October 2025 to households who enrolled in the new opt-in recycling program. To get a new cart: sign up at coastalwasteinc.com/online-signup or call (706) 790-4117.
Why doesn't my apartment building have bulk pickup?
Most multi-family properties in Augusta use private waste contractors, not city sanitation. Your property's contracted hauler may or may not include bulk service, ask your property manager. This gap is exactly why Freemoval exists: residents of multi-family low-income housing typically have the fewest free options, even though they're where dumping volume is highest.
How do I report illegal dumping in Augusta?
Call 311 or use the Augusta Trash & Recycling App (App Store / Google Play). For Georgia state environmental violations, contact the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Active dumping in progress: Richmond County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line.
