Recycling is opt-in. Unlike most cities, Cleveland's recycling program requires residents to enroll for a blue 64-gallon recycling cart. Sign up online or call 311 (216-664-2000).
Yard waste limits. Up to 20 bundles of brush/tree branches, 20 bags of yard waste, 4 tires (without rims), and 3 bulk items can be set out per week (during the first full week for bulk).
Construction/demolition not accepted. The Division of Waste does not collect construction or demolition debris (concrete, wood, brick, dirt, drywall, shingles, siding, toilets, sinks). Residents should rent a city dumpster (call 216-664-2162) or hire a private hauler.
Smaller carts available. 64-gallon trash and recycling carts are available for residents with physical disabilities. Contact 311 to enroll.
Cleveland's donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.
Items typically not accepted: damaged or stained furniture, mattresses with bedbug history or significant wear, appliances that don't work, particle-board furniture in poor condition, cribs (federal safety regulations have changed), and exercise equipment that requires reassembly. Always call before scheduling if you're unsure, pickups that find unacceptable items will leave them behind.

The city also gives every household up to 4 free drop-offs per year at the Ridge Road Transfer Station (up to 4 cubic yards per visit). Donation pickup through Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore, and Goodwill is also free for usable items.

Do I need to wrap a mattress for Cleveland bulk pickup?
Yes. Cleveland requires all mattresses, box springs, and leather or cloth furniture to be wrapped in plastic before bulk pickup. This is a sanitation and worker-safety requirement. How do I qualify for Freemoval in Cleveland?

We’re actively expanding partnerships in Cleveland through 2026. If your property is part of the program, your property manager will provide a booking code. What if I have construction debris in Cleveland?
Cleveland’s Division of Waste does not collect any construction or demolition debris, including concrete, wood, brick, dirt, drywall, shingles, siding, toilets, and sinks, through curbside trash, bulk pickup, or Ridge Road drop-off. Options: rent a dumpster from the City of Cleveland (call 216-664-2162), rent a private dumpster, or hire a contractor-grade hauler.
Why doesn't my apartment building have bulk pickup?
Cleveland’s curbside collection serves single-family homes and multi-family up to 4 units. Larger multi-family properties contract with private waste haulers, so the city’s free bulk pickup typically doesn’t apply. Your property’s contracted hauler may or may not include bulk service. This gap is exactly why Freemoval exists.

To report dumping in progress, call the Cleveland Police non-emergency line at 216-621-1234. Reports can also be filed at clevelandohio.gov. Include location, description, and a photo if possible.
