El Paso is one of the few major U.S. cities where curbside bulky item pickup is not free. The City charges $35 for the first 5 cubic yards of curbside bulky service, which creates a real cost barrier for lower-income households and contributes to El Paso’s illegal dumping problem. The good news: El Paso operates five free Citizen Collection Stations where residents can self-haul trash, bulky items, HHW, and electronics at no charge (with a water bill and ID). This guide covers every disposal option for El Paso residents, with specific rules for each pathway.

Curbside bulky pickup (fee-based)

El Paso’s curbside bulky item pickup requires a fee and appointment. Unlike most major cities, this service is NOT free.

· Cost: $35 for up to 5 cubic yards. $7 per additional cubic yard.

· Schedule: Call Environmental Services at (915) 212-6000, available 7 AM–2 PM Monday–Friday

· Placement: Items must be curbside by 6:00 AM on the scheduled day, minimum 5 feet from containers, mailboxes, fences, parked cars, and other obstructions

· Fee billing: The fee is charged to your El Paso Water Utilities account

Accepted: Furniture, mattresses, appliances (refrigerators must be clean, empty, odor-free, doors removed, and refrigerant removed).

NOT accepted: Vehicles or vehicle parts with title, construction/demolition debris, hazardous waste.

Senior and disability programs: Qualifying residents may be eligible for fee discounts or sidedoor collection service (for those unable to place items at the curb). Contact Environmental Services to apply.
