Las Vegas runs one of the most generous bulk pickup systems of any major U.S. city: biweekly bulk pickup is BUNDLED INTO Republic Services' base residential service rate, no scheduling required, no extra fee. Just place items at the curb by 5 AM on the same day as your regular trash and recycling, every other week. The catch: mattresses must be wrapped in plastic before disposal, fabric-covered furniture must also be wrapped, and only one major appliance per service day is allowed. Republic Services of Southern Nevada operates under a franchise agreement with the City of Las Vegas, also serving Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Summerlin. Two HHW/electronics drop-off locations rotate Wed-Sat between Henderson and North Las Vegas. This page walks through every legitimate option in order from free to paid.

City services in detail

Republic Services franchise model. Unlike many cities where residents shop around for sanitation companies, Southern Nevada runs on municipal franchise agreements: your city or the county sets the contract and Republic Services does the actual collection. Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, and unincorporated Clark County all use Republic Services. Different billing systems but the same trucks and the same rules. Setup is automatic in most parts of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County when you turn on water with the Las Vegas Valley Water District.

5-zone collection system, weekday service. Las Vegas uses a 5-zone collection system with trash collected Monday through Friday depending on your zone. Collection begins as early as 5:00 AM, so all carts must be placed at the curb by that time. Use the Republic Services address lookup tool at republicservices.com/schedule to verify your specific collection day. Carts should be placed at least 4 feet apart from other containers and obstacles.

The bulk-bundled-into-base-service advantage. Las Vegas's biweekly bulk pickup is one of the most under-appreciated aspects of living here, especially right after a move. In much of the Valley, biweekly bulky-item collection is bundled into your base residential service rate rather than charged separately like in many cities. Just place bulk items at the curb on your regular collection day every other week. No phone call, no online form, no wait time.

Single-stream recycling. Las Vegas uses single-stream recycling in the blue cart, all accepted recyclables go in together, no sorting required. Recycling is collected biweekly on the same day as garbage. Items must be empty, clean, and dry, placed loose, never in bags. Republic Services processes all recyclables at its Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Southern Nevada. Plastic bags are NOT accepted in curbside recycling. Recycle plastic bags at ShopRite, Target, or grocery store drop-offs.

Recycling do's. Place empty, clean, dry items LOOSE in the blue cart: paper (newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, office paper), flattened cardboard, cartons, aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, rigid plastic bottles and containers (#1, #2, #5).

Recycling don'ts. Never put in: plastic bags, Styrofoam, food or liquids, electronics, batteries, tanglers (hoses, cords, string lights), or construction materials. "Wish-cycling" (tossing something in the blue cart hoping it'll get recycled) does more harm than good, a single contaminated load can send otherwise clean material to the landfill.

Holiday delays. Republic Services observes major holidays with adjusted schedules. When a holiday falls on a weekday, trash and recycling collection is typically delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Holidays observed: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. Republic provides holiday notifications via mail, website, and customer service.

Track My Truck. Republic Services offers a free Track My Truck feature through the Republic Services app (iOS/Android) and website. On collection day, see your truck's real-time location and estimated arrival time on your street. Especially useful during summer months when trucks start very early.

Republic Services customer service. 702-735-5151 (Mon-Fri 8 AM-5 PM). republicservices.com/southern-nevada. Email: customerservice.lasvegas@republicservices.com.

Reality check on bulk execution. Bulk pickup execution can occasionally be inconsistent, especially after holidays or during summer heat events. If your pile gets skipped, log a missed-pickup request through your Republic account or call 702-735-5151 within 24 hours rather than assuming it'll get caught the next cycle.

Donation pickup, what gets accepted

Las Vegas's donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.

Items typically not accepted: damaged or stained furniture, mattresses with bedbug history or significant wear, appliances that don't work, particle-board furniture in poor condition, cribs (federal safety regulations have changed), and exercise equipment that requires reassembly. Always call before scheduling if you're unsure, pickups that find unacceptable items will leave them behind.

Paid options

For households with construction debris (not accepted in bulk), more than one major appliance, items the city won't take, larger amounts than will fit on one bulk day, can't wait two weeks for bulk pickup, or need same-day service, paid options are available. Note: Las Vegas's free biweekly bulk pickup is so generous that many cleanouts can be handled free with planning.

LoadUp paid pickup

$80+

For households who need same-day service, exceed the one-major-appliance-per-day limit, have construction debris, can't wait two weeks for bulk pickup, or need full-service in-home removal, LoadUp offers professional removal in Las Vegas with upfront pricing. What's included: Loading, hauling, and licensed disposal. No prep needed beyond pointing out what goes, crew handles in-home pickup.

When this beats waiting: Move-outs, real estate timelines, multi-appliance kitchen remodels (one-per-day limit), construction debris, items the city won't accept.

How to report illegal dumping in Las Vegas

To report illegal dumping in Las Vegas, call Republic Services at 702-735-5151 or contact your local jurisdiction. Las Vegas Metro Code Enforcement: 702-229-6615. Clark County Code Enforcement: 702-455-4191. Reports can also be filed via the Republic Services app and the Las Vegas Metro Police Department non-emergency line. Include the location, description of dumped material, and a photo if possible. Las Vegas takes dumping seriously given the scale of the unincorporated areas vulnerable to illegal disposal, fines under Nevada law can exceed $1,000 per offense. If you're considering dumping because of cleanout volume, please use the free biweekly bulk pickup, with 26 free pickups per year and no scheduling needed, most cleanouts can be handled free with planning. For urgent timelines, paid haulers like LoadUp at $80+ are dramatically cheaper than illegal dumping fines.

Common questions

Is there really free junk removal in Las Vegas?

Yes, Las Vegas has one of the most generous bulk pickup systems of any major U.S. city. Republic Services provides free BIWEEKLY curbside bulk pickup BUNDLED INTO your base residential service rate, no scheduling needed, no extra fee. Just place items at the curb by 5 AM on the same day as your regular trash and recycling, every other week. That's 26 free bulk pickups per year. On top of that: free HHW and electronics drop-off at two rotating transfer stations, free residential e-waste recycling at the Blind Center of Nevada, free Christmas tree pickup Dec 26-Jan 15, and 4 free passenger tires at Lunas Recycling. Donation pickup through Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore, Goodwill, and Opportunity Village is also free for usable items. Note: mattresses must be wrapped in plastic, fabric furniture must be wrapped, and only ONE major appliance per service day.

Do I really not need to schedule bulk pickup?

Correct, that's the unusual part of the Las Vegas system. Republic Services' biweekly bulk pickup is bundled into your base residential service rate and runs automatically every other week on the same day as your trash and recycling. No phone call, no online form, no wait time. Just place items at the curb by 5 AM on collection day. Use the Republic Services app or republicservices.com to find your specific collection day if you're unsure. The biweekly schedule means you have 26 opportunities per year to dispose of bulk items free, which is dramatically more flexible than the monthly programs in most major cities.

Why must mattresses and fabric furniture be wrapped in plastic?

Republic Services requires mattresses and fabric-covered furniture to be wrapped in plastic before disposal as a bedbug prevention measure. Las Vegas, like many cities with high transient and rental populations, has had bedbug outbreaks tied to discarded mattresses and upholstered furniture. The plastic wrapping prevents bedbugs and other insects from escaping during transport and seeding new infestations elsewhere. Use heavy-duty plastic mattress bags (sold at hardware stores and big-box retailers) or wrap thoroughly in plastic sheeting and seal with tape. Items not wrapped may not be collected.

Why only ONE major appliance per service day?

Republic Services limits major appliance pickup to ONE per service day for two reasons: (1) Truck capacity, major appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, AC units) take significant space, and the bulk truck still needs to handle other bulky waste from the route. (2) Refrigerant recovery, appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, freezers, AC units) require certified recovery before disposal under federal EPA Section 608 rules, and Republic schedules certified technicians by route. For multi-appliance disposal (kitchen or laundry remodel): spread across multiple biweekly bulk dates, ask retailer for free haul-away during replacement delivery, or use a paid hauler. Some appliance retailers offer free haul-away with delivery, ask before purchase.

How do I qualify for Freemoval in Las Vegas?

Freemoval works through partner communities, typically affordable housing operators, public housing authorities, and select municipal partnerships. We’re actively expanding partnerships in Las Vegas through 2026. If your property is part of the program, your property manager will provide a booking code. If you operate housing or work in a city department in Las Vegas, contact us to discuss adding your community.

Why are there only TWO HHW transfer stations for the entire metro?

Republic Services and Clark County run a centralized HHW system with just two locations, Henderson Transfer Station (560 Cape Horn Drive) and Cheyenne Transfer Station (315 W. Cheyenne Avenue, North Las Vegas), because HHW disposal requires specialized handling, EPA-compliant facilities, and trained staff. Concentrating the volume at two locations lets the program run efficiently. The catch is the rotating schedule: typically Wednesday through Saturday, alternating between the two locations week to week. ALWAYS call 702-735-5151 or check republicservices.com/southern-nevada to confirm which location is open before driving out. HHW limits: 15 gallons or 40 pounds per customer, gasoline 5 gallons max.

How do I report illegal dumping in Las Vegas?

Call Republic Services at 702-735-5151 or contact your local jurisdiction. Las Vegas Metro Code Enforcement: 702-229-6615. Clark County Code Enforcement: 702-455-4191. Reports can also be filed via the Republic Services app and the Las Vegas Metro Police Department non-emergency line. Include location, description of dumped material, and a photo if possible.
