Provo, Utah takes a seasonal approach to bulk waste: Spring Cleanup (March–May) and Fall Cleanup each provide six weeks of roll-off dumpsters at multiple city locations for residents to drop off large items and bulk waste, with a free transfer station load coupon included. Provo has no appointment-based or automated curbside bulk pickup outside these seasonal windows. Year-round, everything must fit inside the cart. The South Utah Valley Solid Waste District handles HHW and electronics for the region. This guide covers disposal options for City of Provo residents.

Regular collection

Provo provides weekly trash and recycling collection in black (trash) and blue (recycling) carts, plus green carts for yard waste weekly from March through November. Green carts are emptied the same day as garbage pickup.

Critical rule: everything must be inside the cart. With the exception of Christmas trees (January) and leaf bags (fall), Provo will not collect items placed outside carts. Oversized items outside carts are not picked up curbside — they must go to seasonal cleanup dumpsters or the Compost Yard.

Carts out by 6:00 AM on pickup day. Remove within 24 hours after emptying. Find your collection day using the city map at provo.gov/388/Trash-and-Recycling.

Extra cans: Provo will supply additional black cans if needed (kept for a minimum of 1 year). Recycling is free — you save $12/month on garbage service by participating in recycling.

Holiday delays: Trash collection is delayed one day for the whole week when a holiday falls on or before your collection day. Affected holidays include Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
