Free patio furniture removal in Milwaukee

Here is how each route works in Milwaukee, starting with the city program and ending with paid pickup.

Milwaukee bulky item pickup: patio furniture

Free, with a step first

A chair or two fits the free allowance; a full set is a Special Pickup or several weeks.

Who qualifies: Properties with City of Milwaukee Sanitation Services collection (generally 1 to 4 units). Larger buildings with private haulers are not eligible.

How to schedule: No appointment for up to 1 cubic yard (about a recliner or two garbage carts): set it at your regular collection point on your regular day. More than that is a Special Pickup for a fee, requested online or at 414-286-CITY: $75 for 1 to 4 cubic yards, $225 for 4 to 6. Project Clean and Green gives each zone one free larger pickup each spring.

Limits: 1 cubic yard free per regular collection. Fees above that. Yard waste, electronics, appliances, and tires are not bulky waste and go to a Drop-Off Center.

Set-out: At your regular collection point on your regular collection day, not blocking the alley or sidewalk. Items left out on other days are a code violation.

Donation pickup in Milwaukee (usable patio furniture)

Free

Milwaukee’s donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.

Items typically not accepted: damaged or stained furniture, mattresses with bedbug history or significant wear, appliances that don’t work, particle-board furniture in poor condition, cribs (federal safety regulations have changed), and exercise equipment that requires reassembly. Always call before scheduling if you’re unsure, pickups that find unacceptable items will leave them behind.

How Milwaukee handles patio furniture

Milwaukee runs an unusually accessible weekly bulk system for the Midwest: 1 cubic yard of bulky items (about the size of a recliner or two garbage carts) can be put at your regular collection point for pickup on your regular collection day, no online request, no City call needed. Plus, Project Clean & Green is the City’s annual spring bulk program: from approximately April 20-June 1, each zone gets one designated week when residents can place up to 6 cubic yards per property, including unwanted furniture, mattresses, household items, and yard waste in BROWN paper bags. Critical caveat: mattresses, large appliances (washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, AC units), and electronics (TVs, computers, monitors) require PREPAID DISPOSAL STICKERS before placement, placing without a sticker may result in code enforcement notice or fine. Drop-Off Centers operate seasonally (Tuesday-Sunday 7 AM-3 PM, approximately April-November). Service is for 1-4 unit dwellings only, apartment buildings (5+ units) and businesses must use private haulers. This page walks through every legitimate option in order from free to paid.

The Milwaukee rule for patio furniture: A chair or two fits the free allowance; a full set is a Special Pickup or several weeks.

Program basics: 1 cubic yard free per regular collection. Fees above that. Yard waste, electronics, appliances, and tires are not bulky waste and go to a Drop-Off Center. At your regular collection point on your regular collection day, not blocking the alley or sidewalk. Items left out on other days are a code violation.

What the city will not take: Appliances, electronics and TVs, tires, yard waste (except Project Clean and Green), household hazardous waste, and construction and demolition waste, which needs a prepaid request or a Drop-Off Center.

How we checked this. The rules on this page were verified in October 2026 against: City of Milwaukee Sanitation: Bulky Item Pickup Guidelines, City of Milwaukee Sanitation: Violations and fees. Programs change; confirm fees and limits before you go.

Why patio furniture are different from ordinary bulk. Patio sets accumulate damage that donation programs will not accept: rust on steel, fading and brittleness on plastic, unraveling resin wicker, and mildew on cushions. Intact aluminum and teak sets in good condition donate easily; everything else goes to scrap or bulk.

Prep checklist before pickup day in Milwaukee

  • Hose off and dry anything you plan to donate or list.
  • Separate metal frames (magnet test for aluminum vs steel) for scrap pickup.
  • Remove glass tabletops; tape in a grid and mark as glass, or box.
  • Unscrew umbrella poles into sections and empty sand from the base.
  • Stack and tie chairs, bag cushions, and set out on the scheduled bulk day.

Three mistakes that get patio furniture left at the curb:

  • Don't put a glass tabletop out unprotected. Remove it, tape it in a grid, mark it as glass, or box it.
  • Don't set out a full umbrella. Unscrew the pole into sections to meet length limits and close the canopy.
  • Don't scrap a teak or cast aluminum set. Both resell even weathered.

Paid options are for a full set with nowhere to stage it, a condo with no bulk service, or heavy cast pieces nobody will carry.

Self-haul to a transfer station

$10 to $30

Plastic and resin pieces stack into a pickup or trailer. Transfer stations charge by load. Take the metal to a scrap yard separately where it is free or pays.

Break resin wicker frames down to reduce the volume charge.

Common questions about patio furniture removal in Milwaukee

Does Milwaukee pick up patio furniture for free?

1 cubic yard free per week.

Where can I donate patio furniture in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee’s donation programs accept items in good usable condition: clean upholstered furniture without significant tears or stains, working appliances less than 10 years old, mattresses in good condition (subject to program-specific rules), kitchenware, lamps, and most household goods.

How much does paid patio furniture removal cost in Milwaukee?

Through the LoadUp marketplace, a single patio furniture pickup in Milwaukee starts around $80 to $100 with upfront pricing, and full-truck loads run $300 to $600 depending on volume. For households who need same-day or in-home pickup, exceed the weekly 1-cubic-yard limit, can't wait for Project Clean & Green or Drop-Off Centers, live in apartment buildings without DPW service, have items the City won't accept, or want full-service hauling without managing prepaid stickers, LoadUp offers professional removal in Milwaukee with upfront pricing. Independent loaders in the marketplace handle pickup, loading, and licensed disposal.

Can patio furniture go out with bulk trash?

Yes in nearly every city with a bulk program. Remove glass tabletops and protect them, break down umbrellas, and stack chairs. Metal pieces can go to scrap instead.

Is aluminum patio furniture worth anything as scrap?

Yes. Aluminum pays several times the per-pound rate of steel, and a full aluminum set weighs 60 to 120 pounds. Many people get $20 to $60 at a yard, or simply give it to a scrapper who picks it up free.

What do I do with a glass patio tabletop?

Remove it from the frame. For bulk pickup, tape the surface in a grid, mark it 'glass,' and lean it securely, or box it. Intact tempered glass tops are also easy to give away because replacements cost $100 or more.

Can I donate weathered patio furniture?

Donation programs want pieces without rust, brittleness, or mildew. Weathered teak and cast aluminum are accepted and resold; faded plastic and frayed resin wicker usually are not. Free listings are more forgiving.

Is this Milwaukee page maintained?

Yes. Freemoval maintains this page as a public resource alongside the full Milwaukee guide. We update it when programs change rules, fees, or contact methods. Last updated October 2026. If you find outdated information, let us know.
