Get help with a pickup

If you can’t afford a pickup, we may be able to help.

Freemoval subsidizes free junk removal for households who genuinely can’t afford paid hauling. No paperwork. No hoops. Just tell us your situation.

Most people getting rid of an old couch, mattress, or appliance can use one of the free options in our disposal guides, donation pickup, city bulk pickup, retailer haul-away. But sometimes those options don’t fit. Maybe your city doesn’t offer free bulk pickup. Maybe the item is too damaged for donation. Maybe you can’t carry it to the curb. Maybe paid hauling at $80–$200 just isn’t something your budget can absorb right now. That’s what Freemoval is for. Our subsidized pickup program is funded entirely by round-up contributions from LoadUp customers and direct donations, pooled to cover pickups at standard market rates so qualifying households don’t pay out of pocket.

Who qualifies

We prioritize households who genuinely can’t afford paid junk removal. We don’t require income verification or financial documentation, we use a self-attestation approach, meaning you describe your situation in your own words. Our team reviews requests and prioritizes those with the clearest need.

Households we frequently support include:

· Seniors on fixed incomes downsizing, transitioning to assisted living, or clearing out a home of decades.

· Families experiencing financial hardship, job loss, medical crisis, unexpected expenses that have made paid hauling impossible.

· People with disabilities who can’t physically move large items to the curb or to a drop-off site.

· Veterans facing housing or financial transitions.

· Households in housing transitions, eviction, foreclosure, displacement, recovering from domestic situations.

· Tenants left with abandoned items from previous occupants in rentals where the landlord won’t help.

· Bereaved families handling estate cleanouts after the death of a loved one.

If your situation isn’t listed but you genuinely can’t afford paid pickup, we still want to hear from you. We’d rather hear about a situation we might not have considered than miss someone we could have helped.

How to request help

Fill out the form below and our team will review your request within 3–10 business days. We don’t require income verification or financial documentation, just tell us your situation in your own words. All requests are reviewed by a real person.

Prefer email? You can reach us at hello@freemoval.org with the same information.

What to expect

Response time: We typically respond to requests within 3–10 business days. We’re a small program with limited staff, and every request is reviewed by a real person rather than auto-routed. Please be patient.

If we can help: We’ll work with you to schedule a pickup through LoadUp Technologies’ service network. Pickups are typically scheduled 2–4 weeks out depending on demand and crew availability in your area. The pickup is fully subsidized, no out-of-pocket cost to you.

If we can’t help: Sometimes our funding doesn’t stretch far enough, our service area doesn’t cover your location, or the items aren’t something we can accommodate. If we can’t help directly, we’ll point you to free alternatives that might work in your situation, donation pickup programs, free city bulk pickup, community resources, or other nonprofit haulers.

The honest reality: Freemoval is a young program with limited capacity. Demand significantly exceeds our current funding, and we have to make priority calls. If your need is urgent, please also explore the free options on this site, we’d rather you have multiple paths in motion than wait on us alone.

What we can usually pick up

Subsidized pickups go through LoadUp’s marketplace platform and are performed by independent loaders in your area, following the standard service capabilities of the platform. We can usually handle:

· Furniture (couches, mattresses, dressers, tables, chairs, bed frames, bookshelves)

· Appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves)

· Electronics (TVs, computers, monitors, printers)

· Exercise equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, weight sets)

· General household items in volume (whole-room or whole-house cleanouts)

· Yard waste in some markets

What we can’t pick up

Some items fall outside what our service network can safely handle, even with full funding:

· Hazardous materials (paint, motor oil, pesticides, propane tanks, asbestos, biohazards), these need specialized hazardous waste services. Our hazardous waste guide covers free city HHW facilities and retailer takeback programs.

· Vehicles or vehicle parts, cars, motorcycles, large vehicle components.

· Construction debris in volume, small amounts of construction waste are usually fine, but full renovation cleanouts typically need a dumpster rental rather than crew haul.

· Items requiring specialized equipment, large in-ground hot tubs, pianos in tight access situations, items requiring forklifts or cranes.

Service area exclusions

Freemoval’s subsidized pickup program operates through LoadUp Technologies’ service network. Some states and markets are not currently in our service area:

· New Jersey: Freemoval is not currently operational in New Jersey. New Jersey requires solid waste haulers to hold an A901 license issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, and we’re working through that process before we can accept subsidy requests in NJ. NJ residents can still access free options through donation programs (Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore, Furniture Banks) and city bulk pickup, see our Newark and Camden guides for details.

If you’re unsure whether Freemoval operates in your area, send your request anyway and our team will let you know. We’d rather hear from you and route you to alternatives than miss someone we could have helped.

If you’re a community organization

If you work for a social service agency, religious organization, housing nonprofit, or community group and you have clients who could benefit from subsidized pickups, please reach out. We’re always looking for ways to support trusted intermediaries who can identify need in their communities. Email hello@freemoval.org with “Community partner” in the subject line.

If you want to help

The reason we can offer subsidized pickups is that other people contribute. If you can afford to fund a pickup for someone who can’t, you can contribute directly, 100% of contributions go to subsidized pickup costs, with zero overhead deducted. Or, when you book a paid pickup with LoadUp, you can opt in to round up at checkout to fund the program.

Common questions

Is Freemoval really free?

Yes. Subsidized pickups have no out-of-pocket cost to the recipient. The pickup is funded by round-up contributions from LoadUp customers and direct donations to Freemoval. There are no hidden fees, no contracts, and no commitments.

Do I have to prove I’m low-income?

No. We use a self-attestation approach, you describe your situation in your own words rather than submitting tax returns, pay stubs, or benefit documentation. We trust people to be honest about their needs. We do prioritize requests based on the clarity and urgency of stated need, especially when capacity is limited.

How long does it take to get a Freemoval pickup?

Wait times depend on demand and program funding. Currently, response time on requests is typically 3–10 business days, with pickup scheduling typically 2–4 weeks out. We’re a small program operating with limited capacity. If your situation is urgent, we’ll do our best to accommodate but can’t guarantee fast turnaround.

What if I just want one item picked up, not a whole house?

Single-item pickups are absolutely something we can help with. In fact, single-item pickups (one couch, one mattress, one refrigerator) are easier for us to schedule than large multi-room cleanouts.

Where does Freemoval operate?

Freemoval operates through LoadUp Technologies’ nationwide service network across cities in all 50 U.S. states. The program is launching across 108 cities, with Atlanta as the founding market. Subsidized pickup availability varies by location and may be limited as the program ramps. New Jersey is currently excluded pending state-required A901 licensing, NJ residents should use the free options on our Newark and Camden guides. Check our locations page for current service areas.

What if Freemoval can’t help me?

If you don’t qualify or we can’t accommodate your request, we’ll point you to free options that might work, donation pickup programs (Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore, Furniture Banks), free city bulk pickup, and other community resources. Our disposal guides cover free options for every common item type.

Are Freemoval pickups tax-deductible donations?

No. Freemoval is a social impact program of LoadUp Technologies, LLC, not a registered 501(c)(3) charity. Receiving a subsidized pickup is not a taxable event for you. Contributions to fund the program are also not tax-deductible, we’re upfront about that. Learn more about how Freemoval is structured.

I’m embarrassed to ask for help. Is this really for me?

If you’re reading this page and your situation feels like it might fit, please reach out. Asking for help with disposal isn’t something to be embarrassed about, the alternative is often illegal dumping, which carries fines and harms communities. Our team handles requests with discretion and respect. Many people who reach out tell us they almost didn’t.
