A public resource guide
Trampolines break down into scrap steel and a mat. Wood playsets break down into lumber that most bulk programs accept in bundles. Disassembly is the work; disposal after that is mostly free.
Last updated: October 2026 · Maintained by Freemoval as a public resource
A 14-foot trampoline is about 200 pounds of galvanized steel tubing, 90 or so springs, a polypropylene mat, foam pads, and a net on fiberglass poles. A wood playset is 300 to 1,000 pounds of lumber (usually pressure-treated or cedar), galvanized hardware, a plastic slide, and swings. Neither leaves the yard assembled. Once apart, the steel is scrap that scrappers collect free, the lumber bundles for bulk pickup in most cities, and the mat, pads, and slide are bulk items. The whole job for either is a Saturday with a socket set and a spring puller.

Trampoline springs are under tension and are the injury risk. Use the spring puller that came with the trampoline or a pair of locking pliers, work in a cross pattern so tension releases evenly, and remove the net and pads first. The frame tubes then pull apart by hand or with a rubber mallet.
Playset lumber is heavy and often pressure-treated. Pressure-treated wood cannot be burned and is not accepted as yard waste or by most wood recyclers, but it is accepted as bulk or C&D. Cedar and redwood sets can go to wood recyclers. Posts set in concrete need to be cut at grade or dug out.
Both items generate a surprising count of pieces against bulk item limits: a trampoline is 2 to 4 bundles, and a playset can be 6 to 12 bundles plus the slide. Tie bundles tightly and keep them under length limits.
After disassembly, nearly all of it leaves free.
Free listings for working trampolines and playsets
FreeAn intact trampoline or playset in usable condition is claimed within a day on Marketplace, Craigslist, or Buy Nothing, and the taker handles disassembly. Even weathered sets move if the structure is sound. This is the best outcome and the least work.
Require the taker to disassemble and haul. Set a pickup window and have the hardware bag ready.
Daycares and churches sometimes take donated playsets if they are newer and meet safety standards.
Scrap pickup for trampoline frames and playset hardware
FreeGalvanized steel trampoline frames, springs, and swing hangers are scrap. Bundle the tubes, bag the springs, and either take them to a yard or post as free scrap. Scrappers collect them quickly because the weight is good and the tubes stack flat.
Separate the steel from the mat, pads, and net so the scrapper takes the whole bundle.
City bulk pickup for lumber, mats, pads, and slides
Free in most citiesMost bulk programs accept dismantled playset lumber in tied bundles under a length limit (often 4 to 6 feet) and a weight limit, plastic slides as single items, and trampoline mats and pads bagged or rolled. Pressure-treated lumber is usually accepted as bulk but never as yard waste.
Pull or hammer flat every nail and screw before bundling.
Count the bundles against item limits; large playsets may need two pickups.
Wood recycling for untreated cedar and redwood
Free to small feeCedar and redwood playsets can go to wood and green waste recyclers that grind clean lumber into mulch. Pressure-treated wood (greenish tint, incised marks, or a stamp) is excluded everywhere.
When in doubt, treat it as pressure-treated and use bulk or C&D.
Paid options are for large playsets with concrete footings, in-ground trampolines, and cities with tight bulk limits.
Self-haul to a transfer station
$20 to $60Bundled lumber and a rolled mat load into a pickup or trailer. Transfer stations charge by weight; pressure-treated wood goes as C&D.
Take the steel to a scrap yard first where it is free.
LoadUp paid pickup
$80+For households not eligible for free programs, or who need a trampoline or playset gone this week, LoadUp connects you with independent loaders in cities across all 50 states. Upfront pricing, same-week scheduling, in-home pickup from any floor, and licensed disposal or recycling handled for you.
What’s included: Loading, hauling, and disposal. No prep needed beyond pointing out what goes.
Pricing: Starts around $80 for a single item; full-truck pickups range from $300 to $600 depending on volume.
If you can pay for a pickup, your booking helps fund free pickups for someone else. Every paid LoadUp customer can opt in to round up at checkout, and 100% of round-ups go directly to Freemoval’s subsidized jobs.
Get a trampoline or playset pickup price from LoadUp → Round-up option appears at checkout. Optional, opt-in only.
Dismantled trampolines and playsets are accepted by most bulk programs in tied bundles under length and weight limits, with pressure-treated lumber accepted as bulk but excluded from yard waste. Tap a city for its bundle limits. Each city link opens a dedicated free trampoline or playset removal guide for that city, built from the same researched city data.

Can a trampoline go out with bulk trash?
Disassembled, yes in most cities: frame tubes bundled, springs bagged, mat and pads rolled or bagged. The steel can also go to a scrap yard free. Check your city's bundle limits in the directory below.
How do I take down a trampoline?
Remove the net and poles, then the pad. Use the spring puller or locking pliers to unhook springs in a cross pattern (one, then the opposite side, then a quarter turn around). Lift off the mat. Pull the frame tubes apart at the joints with a rubber mallet, and unbolt the legs. Two people, one to two hours.
Can I put playset lumber out for pickup?
Most bulk programs accept dismantled lumber in tied bundles under a length limit (commonly 4 to 6 feet) and a weight limit, with all nails removed or flattened. Pressure-treated wood is accepted as bulk but excluded from yard waste everywhere.
How do I know if the wood is pressure-treated?
Look for a greenish or brownish tint, small incision marks in a grid pattern, or an end tag or stamp. Most residential playsets sold since the 1990s are pressure-treated pine unless marketed as cedar or redwood.
What do I do with the springs?
Bag them in a heavy contractor bag or bucket and give them to the scrapper with the frame, or take them to a scrap yard. Do not put loose springs in the trash cart.
Can I donate a used playset?
Some daycares, churches, and families take newer sets in sound condition through free listings, and the taker usually disassembles. Weathered or splintering sets should be dismantled for bulk.
What does LoadUp charge to remove a trampoline or playset?
Both price by volume and typically above the single-item minimum because of disassembly time and bundle count. Independent loaders on the LoadUp marketplace disassemble on site; mention whether it is already apart when booking.
